Samuel Rather II, the co-founder of Rather EDU is noteworthy leader with over 15 years of leadership experience. He has served in many roles during his tenure; math teacher, academic content liaison, transformational principal, and director of equity-centered principal development. Sam graduated with honors from Delaware State University, (B.S), Johns Hopkins University, (M.S), and earned a certificate from Harvard University. He was the recipient of the Heart of the School award for being a passionate and sedulous principal.

Sam is a certified ICF executive coach, he offers coaching services to professionals in/out of the school setting. He partners with leaders in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Sam is zealous and committed to understanding how equity and trauma plays out in the principalship role in order to develop courageous and equity minded leaders who will lead the change we need for the students. In his spare time, he enjoys yoga, cycling, a good comedy show, and hanging with friends and family.

Tanea Rather, the co-founder of Rather EDU has worked in K-8 education for 18 years, serving as a teacher, founding director of an all-boys public charter school, principal, and now academic coach. Tanea has completed her training in the science of reading and holds a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. She specializes in training teachers in managing ADHD in the classroom, curriculum implementation in literacy & math, science of reading, culturally responsive teaching, differentiation using small group instruction, and best practices for elementary/middle school literacy/mathematics.

Tanea has now partnered with parents and students to provide coaching for students who are struggling academically with school. Tanea’s coaching style focuses on developing individuals, nurturing the learning process, and focusing on long-term improvements. She is passionate about the long-term success of children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, culinary cuisine, traveling and hanging with her family and friends.
